"to rescue truth from beauty and meaning from belief"

About

I stumbled into blogging primarily to say something about the state of Singapore politics, economy and society. Now, nearly 20 months, about 100 posts and 40k page views later, I’m clearer about my intent.

I write to share and reach out to my fellow younger citizens (my children’s age, mid-twenties and below), those who are about to or already retired and the many, many more in-between the former and latter; the sandwiched generation, where I also belong, we who have to raise our children, look after our parents who have little or no CPF –  while still having to worry over our own retirement needs in the years soon to come.

My focus is on the ‘Change we Must’ and to ‘end PAP’s dominance’. A dominance that, initially, did good for the citizens of Singapore. But, in the last 2, 3 decades, that same dominance has done great damage to We The Citizens of Singapore as One United People even if outwardly the bricks and mortars, glass and steel continue to glimmer and bedazzle visitors to our isle.

While to my fellow younger citizens, I urge, for your lives…

Let the disappointments pass
Let the laughter fill your glass
Let your illusions last until they shatter
Whatever you might hope to find
Among the thoughts that crowd your mind
There won’t be many that ever really matter
……
And when you’ve found another soul
Who sees into your own
Take good care of each other

And for everyone else, young or old, let us explore together how to ‘rescue truth from beauty and meaning from belief‘……for we must scratch deeper, look farther and ask often what the truth is when our politicians impress on us how beautiful this country it is they claim to have created and what each of their beliefs actually mean in practical terms for us as citizens, not just now but in the days to come.

Thank you for dropping in.

  3. Got acquainted with your blog just a moment ago by chance. Very good writing indeed. When so many good writers and thinkers have disappeared or given up writing (most likely out of despondency and disappointment) it’s refreshing to see your blog. Keep it up.

  4. Hi, Nick!

Glad for your visit and kind, encouraging words. I believe that, even with what’s stacked against us all, by continuing to write and speak up – someday, maybe – the sheer volume will cause an avalanche to tip PAP’s dominance over – and let some sunshine of alternative light shine thro’….
